Protéger Medical was founded in the spring of 2020 to address the growing need for PPE resulting from the outbreak of COVID-19. Unlike conventional open or laparoscopic surgery, surgeons using a microscope to operate are unable to wear surgical hoods, face shields or protective goggles. Born out of necessity to protect the equipment, the surgeon and the staff from aerosolized pathogens, errant irrigation splash or bioburden droplets, the Protéger Medical Protection system was developed.
The Protéger Medical protection system incorporates an Equipment cover, surgeon protection cover and safe disposal bag incorporated in one simple to use product. Designed to work with Zeiss, Leica, Haag Streit and Alcon Microscopes, the protection system is simple to use, and its application is similar to that of a conventional microscope drape. Once applied, the surgeon simply deploys the protective skirt and attaches it to their chest creating a sealed barrier between their exposed neck and head from the surgical field.
